In the UK there are loads of LHD cars that drive across the border from mainland Europe without a problem; likewise with UK/Irish RHD cars in Europe. The only real safety issue with having a “wrong-sided” car is that unless you buy headlamp beam converters, your headlamps can dazzle people going the other way down the road. Overtaking on two-laned roads isn’t an issue if you simply back off from the car in front of you (which you should do regardless of where you’re sitting in the car!).
